BLOG UPDATE: Make Your Monument Second Mortgage Disap

The Loop in Manitou Springs

Why do I continue blogging about Westside restaurants? Easy – I live on the Westside, and I’m really, really good at eating. It seems I’ve been doing it forever. Anyway, we went out to the Loop in Manitou Springs the other night. My wife ordered something mellow, and I, of course, had to burn my tongue off. The salsa they serve when you sit down is usually enough to clear the sinuses, but I just had to get the chili verde to really wreck my taste buds. In my defense, I will say that the last few times I ordered the chili verde, it was hot, but not insane. This time, it was. It is entirely possible that people selling real estate today have a masochistic streak in them by default, but this seemed to be conclusive evidence in my case. None of this is the fault of the Loop, mind you. It’s a great restaurant. One could easily argue that they have the best margaritas in town. It’s just that from time to time I take things too far with the hot food. Now, I didn’t go running out the front door to douse my tongue in the mineral water from the natural spring in front of the restaurant, but I thought about it more than once.

If you’re in Manitou an in the mood for some good Mexican food, stop by the Loop. The food and service are outstanding. The building has a long, storied history as well. Just go slow on the spicy stuff.
